It’s so close! Fourth of July weekend is right around the corner with summer sun, family vacations, parties, and BBQs. Especially during this time of year, Americans are proud of their hard work, personal liberty, and ability to stand united in support of independence. Reflecting on why we celebrate our great nation’s independence and all that we’ve accomplished this year strikes a positive note for the future.
As patriotism is celebrated this holiday, it’s appropriate to comment on the contributions U.S. manufacturers have made to the economy. The manufacturing community represents the resilience of American workers and our patriotic efforts by creating jobs, supporting business development, and strengthening the U.S. economy as a whole.
Positive Economic Impact on Society
Manufacturers throughout the U.S. work each day to contribute to the economy, adding back $1.40 for every $1.00 spent in manufacturing. As the economy matures, the manufacturing sector shifts concurrently, focusing on new ways to generate innovation, productivity and growth in order to keep up with today’s advancing economies and to make America a global leading competitor.
An estimated 18.5 million jobs in the United States are supported by manufacturing ― honorably representing the hard working country that we were in 1776 and remain today!
Support American Businesses
Manufacturers around the U.S. are proud to be Americans. This summer, consciously make the decision to support Michigan’s local businesses. Whether you’re a consumer making a retail purchase, or an organization seeking to domesticate its supply chain, go local!
An easy way to get started is to access the Proud to Manufacture in Michigan online directory, located at ptmim.org. From apparel and electrical parts, to furniture and transportation equipment, Michigan’s manufacturers make it all.
Looking to the Future: Strengthening the U.S. Manufacturing Sector
There are so many reasons to celebrate the manufacturers’ continuous efforts to strengthen the world’s 9th largest economy. We’re one of the most diverse sectors with various distinct groups of industries. Manufacturers are continuously developing opportunities through innovation.
Looking to the future, there is quite a bit to be excited about. New technological advancements will shape the future of manufacturing. In order to preserve U.S. manufacturing, the next generation of American manufacturing workers needs to be inspired and cultivated.
By 2025, the manufacturing sector is projected to have 1.6 million positions unfulfilled. To all of our readers, take a proactive approach in educating young innovators all over the country. Convey how U.S. manufacturing is critical to our nation’s growth, while also communicating the benefits of manufacturing careers. The industry is modern, cool, and dare I say, fun… the next generation needs to learn this!
Develop programs that allow groups such as millennials to gain hands-on experience and be a part of the wondrous world of manufacturing. Through these educational programs, future generations will aspire to continue the American dream, as they will evidently make up most of our workforce in the near future!
On behalf of MMTC, have a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July weekend with your family and friends!
